A highly emotional visit to the Thiepval Memorial

Among all the places of remembrance, I’d like to share the one which touches me the most namely the Franco-British Memorial. This monument, with its striking architecture (45 metres high), can be seen from miles around. Its pillars bear the names of the 73,367 British and South African who died between July1915 and March 1918 and for whom there is no known grave. No matter how many times I read the names of the thousands of men who lost their lives I always feel emotional and reminded of the sheer magnitude of the First World War. In my opinion it’s THE essential site on the Circuit of Remembrance!
