Facing the Boulogne-sur-Mer beach, the La Matelote hotel is the place to come for refreshing weekend getaway to France. The hotel and onsite Michelin starred restaurant are located on the beautiful Opal Coast just 30 minutes from Calais.
Boulogne-sur-Mer is France’s largest fishing port and the hotel and restaurant sit right on the port. You can meet the fishermen and perhaps spot your meal for the evening! Nothing is more refreshing than the fresh sea breeze which will have you feeling a million miles away - you may even spot a seal swimming around.
Just around the corner is Nausicaà Sea Life experience (classified a “center of excellence” by Unesco for building awareness of the marine environment), and the Boulogne-sur-Mer old town perched above the harbour, where the 100 Christmas market chalets will be standing.
The old town is beautiful with cobbled steps and charming cafés and terraces.
The hotel offers great comfort and a warm decor to prolong the gourmet escapade designed by Tony Lestienne, your Michelin starred chef. You’ll have the opportunity to share your dessert with the top Chef’s entire brigade, and have a quick photo opportunity.
La Matelote is first and foremost a family story. Tony is the great great grandson of the famous and celebrated bearded woman of Boulogne-sur-Mer, Clémence Lestienne, whose portrait you’ll find in the restaurant.
