Come and explore Northern France and discover its secrets, great outdoors and art de vivre ! Northern France is the perfect weekend getaway destination

The regions of Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy have merged to form the new Hauts-de-France (Northern France) region. The region has over 40 UNESCO treasures from the Amiens Cathdrale to the Beyfries, the mining heritage and soon to be listed WW1 memorials and landscapes.

In Amiens you can also visit the Hortillonnages floating gardens by boat, a wonderful way to get back to nature. The region boasts many Michelin starred restaurants, and supurb regional dining.

Visit some of the gorgeous villages such as Montreuil-sur-Mer, Senlis, Gerberoy, Cassel or even the winding laneways in beautiful Lille. Chantilly, home to famous Chantilly cream is a must see destintion. Visit the Domaine de Chantilly, home to one of France's most valuabe art collections. The gardens were designed by Le Nôtre and the horse museum in the world calss stables is well worth a visit. James Bond film A view to a kill was filmed here.

Camelot Castle - or Pierrefonds - the set to BBC Merlin is another must see icon of the region. This fairy-tale castle emerges from one of France's largest forests (Compiegne) like a scene from a dream. The town itself is just lovely, with lake side dining, bike paths and markets. When basing yourself at Lille, visit Le Piscine art museum for a real 'wow' moment. The art collection is housed in an Art Deco swimming pool and is just magnifique. You can also easily visit the Villa Cavrois, an incredible example of Art Modern, a mansion reconstructed painstakingly by the French governement to its original form.

The Louvre-Lens is a branch of the Louvre in the France capital. A rolling program of expositions and events complements the 'gallery of time' semi-permenant collection which allows a unique and easy to understand vision of art trends throughout the world along a timeline from Antiquity, through the Middle Ages until the modern period.

The region is so easy to get to from the UK, by Eurostar, channel tunnel or ferry.
