Begin or end your holiday with a family treat, stopping over in a family-friendly château deep in the countryside yet just off the A26 and A29 motorways and less than two hours from the Channel ferry ports.

It’s perfect for children to stretch their legs, whether they’re exploring the lake with its 18th-century bridge and artificial cave, bouncing on the trampoline, or meeting the resident horse, donkey and wild rabbits. Inside you’ll also find a billiards room with a cosy fireplace.

The rooms are large and comfortable, and yours can sleep up to five easily. A gourmet breakfast is included, but make life even easier for yourself by opting for dinner too, home-cooked by your convivial host Gaetan. At €30pp (£22) for adults and 1/2 price for children under 12 it’s exceptional value (aperitif, entrée, main, cheese, dessert, wine etc!) – so make sure you book!
