- Chantilly Flower Show - Les journées des plantes
If you are planning a trip to this year’s Chantilly Flower Show or "Les Journées des Plantes", here are some ideas to help you explore the other remarkable gardens in Northern France on your way to, or home from the event.
Chantilly Flower Show
The Chantilly Flower Show, one of Europe’s main horticultural events, which until recently was held at the Domain of Courson, will again be held at the magnificent Domaine de Chantilly. The event will be held over the 13,14 and 15 of October in the exquisite grounds of the château, in the gardens which were designed by non-other that André Le Notre (the landscape architect of many royal gardens including Versailles).
There will be over 200 exhibitors, including nurseries and horticulturalists. Workshops to improve your very own gardens will be available on many specific subjects from orchids to perennials.
The theme for autumn 2017: Technicolor gardens. Be bold and make use of colour!

Northern France has many other impressive gardens, but you should really try to fit in a couple of these top examples:
The jardins de Maizicourt
A 10 hectare garden, voted by the French as their favorite garden on popular TV series, designed around a beautiful 18th century brick château. It has 19 different areas including an orangerie, Italian terraces, a water garden and a potager. Ornamental hens potter around, adding to the ambience.
The Jardins de Sericourt
Designed and run by a father-son team, this garden plays with form and flow to create surprising spaces and enchanting rooms. Worth noting are the climbing roses, a topiary of about 400 trees, a WW1 remembrance feature garden and salon du thé.
The Jardins de Valloires
Spectacular French gardens, wrapped around a magnificent Cistercian abbey with 12th-century origins. Over 20 glorious acres, you’ll discover around 2,000 species of roses and rare shrubs, many from Central Asia and the Far East.
