Gastronomic weekend break at boutique B&B with Michelin meal

Esprit de Service:
yes

We’ve been thinking: if you were playing ‘Monopoly: The-Northern-France-Edition’, what would be its standout landmarks, do you think? Well, there would be the soaring WW1 memorials and Somme battlefields, plus the stunning Louvre-Lens museum and art gallery… and of course the sharp-intake-of-breath fairytale squares of Arras. But let’s face it, the experience would be better than the game - wouldn’t it? - and there’s one boutique B&B in Northern France where you can ‘land’ on all three… the Domaine-des-Loups B&B near Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, just a 1 hour drive from Calais and 5 minutes from the A26 motorway. On top of luxuriating in a spacious, modern, minimalistic suite (we love the glamorous integrated bathroom section), this gastronomic weekend break also includes dinner-for-two at the ‘Atelier Marc Meurin’ restaurant. (You’ll find it in the Michelin guide - need we say more?)

You’ll love:

- The park that invites you to stroll around

- The designer suite and its high-end furniture

- Dinner with a starred chef included

- Sunday brunch

One of the first things that strikes you about the Domaine-des-Loups B&B in Northern France is that it’s an ultra on-trend space right at the heart of natural surroundings - urban style meets rural charm if you like - with plenty of wildlife around (sheep, rabbits, birds…) to prove it.

Once inside, owner Bertrand - the one with the eye for design in fact - will show you to the ‘Toi et Moi’ suite or 'Juste pour nous' suite – an appropriate enough name for a romantic weekend break, non? And feast your eyes - because when design is minimalistic like this it draws the eye to chic feature furniture, texture, colour and artwork, not to mention the luxury bedding, minibar and coffee machine – clever!
With the very best of local produce, and all the croissanty goodies you’d expect from a gastronomic weekend break in France, you’ll want to take your time over breakfast - or Bertrand’s brunch as it becomes on a Sunday, with delectable cheeses, local honey, artisan charcuterie and fresh fruit kebabs to tickle your tastebuds. Yet the true highlight of this gastronomic weekend break (and included in the price!) is your dinner-for-two at Marc Meurin’s restaurant in Lens, just 15 minutes away. Unarguably, it’s one of the very best restaurants in Northern France, not just for its impeccable and inventive cuisine but for the building it’s housed in – which can only be described as a futuristic and transparent bubble – seeing is believing!

The restaurant’s within the same grounds as the unmissable Louvre-Lens art gallery, sister museum to the Paris Louvre, where you experience a truly spellbinding sensation walking through 5,000 years of history and art in the light-filled Galerie-des-Temps.
And within walking distance of Domaine-des-Loups B&B is a collection of strikingly poignant WW1 visits - all on the same site: France’s largest military cemetery at Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, plus the 14-18 WW1 museum, and the hugely uplifting memorial Anneau-de-la-Memoire (Ring of Remembrance), inclusively and alphabetically listing all the names of the fallen - not just the Allies - who perished in Pas-de-Calais. You’ll never forget the impact the scale has on you. Finally, with the squares of Arras completing your Northern France property portfolio, you’ll conclude that you really have rolled a double six at Domaine-des-Loups.
