We’ve been thinking: if you were playing ‘Monopoly: The-Northern-France-Edition’, what would be its standout landmarks, do you think? Well, there would be the soaring WW1 memorials and Somme battlefields, plus the stunning Louvre-Lens museum and art gallery… and of course the sharp-intake-of-breath fairytale squares of Arras. But let’s face it, the experience would be better than the game - wouldn’t it? - and there’s one boutique B&B in Northern France where you can ‘land’ on all three… the Domaine-des-Loups B&B near Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, just a 1 hour drive from Calais and 5 minutes from the A26 motorway. On top of luxuriating in a spacious, modern, minimalistic suite (we love the glamorous integrated bathroom section), this gastronomic weekend break also includes dinner-for-two at the ‘Atelier Marc Meurin’ restaurant. The Ring of Remembrance

Close to the battles of Artois, I invite you to take another look at the centenary of the Great War, because in Ablain-Saint-Nazaire, it is no longer a question of nations, allies or enemies. With the ring of Remembrance, one of the greatest memorials in the world, it is 500 sheets of metal on which are engraved, in alphabetical order, without distinction of nationality, rank or religion, the names of  579606 soldiers now combined Forever in a common humanity. Here the quiet seizes the visitor. I recommend you climb the hill on foot, from the parking  of the  memorial 1418 in Souchez, before entering the ring, it takes 15 minutes before arriving on the plateau and when the night goes down, the impression is even stronger.
