Only 50 miles from Paris, in the charming village of Morienval on the outskirts of the Compiègne forest, stonebuilt L’Instant exudes the traditional character of Northern France on a former grange steeped in heritage. Inside, the vast, open and convivial living space is ideal for family weekend breaks, with a supersized kitchen and table for gourmet gatherings, a further dining space beneath a cathedral ceiling, a large seating area and an impressive chimney as centrepiece.

It’s this focal-point fireplace that unlocked a nostalgic childhood memory for owner Florence – cosying up in towels post-swimming at her grandparents’ – so it’s no coincidence that the jewel in L’Instant’s crown (wait for the gasps from the kids)… is a stunning swimming pool located in the former stables, just one of many ways Florence adds attention to detail and an ultra-high level of service. All your needs will be taken care of, so all you need to do is enjoy quality time together on this luxury multigenerational break.

Almost directly from l’Instant’s door, there are no end of pathways for you to discover the best of the serene Northern France countryside. You’ll soon be in the forest itself and, if you like, Florence can arrange for hired bikes to be delivered to your door. Within close proximity you also have the chance to visit family-friendly Pierrefonds castle, or the famous Château de Compiègne with its ‘Allée des Beaux-Monts’ iconic treelined walkway - gaspworthy views guaranteed.

Of course, no one could blame you for staying in instead! The super well-equipped kitchen is the perfect place to cook up a family feast together or, if you don’t fancy cooking, ask Florence (in advance) about hampers of ready-to-cook meals or even a chef coming to cook for you. Whatever you decide, don’t miss the chance to get together on the terrace afterwards, all looking out over Morienval’s abbey at nightfall. After all, ‘L’Instant’ means ‘in the moment’ – and this special moment in France isn’t one you’ll forget anytime soon…

A room for everyone

‘L’Instant’ gîte can accommodate up to 15 people in 5 separate rooms, each with its own private bathroom. (2 of the rooms can be interconnecting to accommodate 2 adults and 3 children. 2 of the further 3 double bedrooms also have sofabeds.)

Travel light!

Sheets, bath towels and bath/shower products are all included and the kitchen has the basics that you’ll need (condiments, coffee, sugar etc.) For the children to enjoy, there’s a trampoline, swing and playhouse in the garden. Boardgames are also available.

No pressure!

Beds made up for your arrival. Your first fire is ready assembled – all you need to do is strike the match! Cleaning is included after your departure.

Help yourself to wood for the fire

You’ll find all you need right by the gîte.

Arrival and departure times to suit you

Arrival any time after 2pm. On your day of departure, you can also arrange to leave as late as 5pm (dependent on the gîte’s availability, please contact Florence).

Babysitting service

Nathalie, our reputable babysitter, can look after your children at the gîte if you fancy taking some time out to enjoy the countryside or treating yourself to a massage. (You can book to have a massage in your room with a qualified therapist.)

Food shopping recommendations – fill the fridge with quality French goodies!

Florence knows all the best local places to shop in Pierrefonds, from your charcuterie cold meats (try ‘Maurice Bigot’) or bread and treats from the boulangerie (head to ‘Vanille et Chocolat’).

Don’t fancy cooking?

Florence can provide you with a long list of contacts for ‘traiteur’ services (pre-prepared dishes that just need heating, delivered directly to the gîte) or can even recommend a cook who’ll come to prepare a meal for you at the villa.

Hire bikes for all the family

Bike-hire company ‘Picardie Forêt Verte’ can deliver adult/children’s bikes directly to the gîte for approximately 15€ per person per day.

Florence is always close-at-hand and available to answer your queries!

Extra-large party?

A second gîte also accommodating 15 people is available, should you have an extra-large number of people in your group.

Cycling in the forest

When you get into town the first thing to do is organise some bike hire. You can rent bikes to help you discover the 14,000 hectares of forest which surround you.

There are miles and miles of safe and well-marked bike paths to help stretch those legs! Bike hire is available from the campsite ‘Le Coeur de la forest’ which is on your left just before you arrive in town. Also – get your French pastry hit here in the Vanille et Chocolat bakery which is very popular among locals!
