Only 50 miles from Paris, in the charming village of Morienval on the outskirts of the Compiègne forest, stonebuilt L’Instant exudes the traditional character of Northern France on a former grange steeped in heritage. Inside, the vast, open and convivial living space is ideal for family weekend breaks, with a supersized kitchen and table for gourmet gatherings, a further dining space beneath a cathedral ceiling, a large seating area and an impressive chimney as centrepiece.

It’s this focal-point fireplace that unlocked a nostalgic childhood memory for owner Florence – cosying up in towels post-swimming at her grandparents’ – so it’s no coincidence that the jewel in L’Instant’s crown (wait for the gasps from the kids)… is a stunning swimming pool located in the former stables, just one of many ways Florence adds attention to detail and an ultra-high level of service. All your needs will be taken care of, so all you need to do is enjoy quality time together on this luxury multigenerational break.

Almost directly from l’Instant’s door, there are no end of pathways for you to discover the best of the serene Northern France countryside. You’ll soon be in the forest itself and, if you like, Florence can arrange for hired bikes to be delivered to your door. Within close proximity you also have the chance to visit family-friendly Pierrefonds castle, or the famous Château de Compiègne with its ‘Allée des Beaux-Monts’ iconic treelined walkway - gaspworthy views guaranteed.

Of course, no one could blame you for staying in instead! The super well-equipped kitchen is the perfect place to cook up a family feast together or, if you don’t fancy cooking, ask Florence (in advance) about hampers of ready-to-cook meals or even a chef coming to cook for you. Cycling in the forest

When you get into town the first thing to do is organise some bike hire. You can rent bikes to help you discover the 14,000 hectares of forest which surround you.

There are miles and miles of safe and well-marked bike paths to help stretch those legs! Bike hire is available from the campsite ‘Le Coeur de la forest’ which is on your left just before you arrive in town. Also – get your French pastry hit here in the Vanille et Chocolat bakery which is very popular among locals!
