- Amiens Christmas Market - 25th November - 30th December 2023
Enter an enchanted realm at one of the biggest festive markets in Northern France – Amiens Christmas market with its magical seasonal scents, sights and sounds.
The French christmas Market in Amiens covers a full two kilometres of the largely pedestrianised centre
The market’s 130-or-so charming chalet-style stalls give you the perfect opportunity to stock up on unique Christmas presents and festive decorations, as well as local crafts and regional food, whether to take home with you or to eat while you browse – think the likes of roasted chestnuts still warm and fragrant in their paper cones and waffles with chocolate sauce. And as well as sweet treats, you’ll get the chance to savour dishes by French chefs.
For those with kids in tow – or in fact anyone young at heart! – there are street performers, old-time carousels, a skating rink and a Santa’s parade. Indeed French Christmas markets provide a great opportunity to get away from the routine of everyday life, slow down and spend quality time together as a couple or a family. Sharing precious moments with your partner, your parents, your children or your grandchildren, you’ll be flooded with a sense of peace and wellbeing as you take in the smells, the atmosphere, the lights, the stunning architecture of the buildings in the squares hosting the Christmas market, and sounds such as children laughing and squealing with joy and excitement…
Chroma: a Festive Light Show
As if Amiens Christmas market didn’t provide enough glitter and sparkle, the city’s iconic, UNESCO World Heritage Gothic cathedral hosts the Chroma sound-and-light show (during Christmas market from 7:00 to 8 pm) using state-of-the-art technology to bring its western facade with its medieval sculptures to colourful life. This is a uniquely atmospheric experience in a country renowned as a romantic destination – one that inspires dreams…
40 minutes drive from Amiens, the Somme Battlefields
Visiting Amiens Christmas market also gives you the chance for some contemplation at the nearby Somme battlefields, where many visitors come to pay homage to family members who lost their lives in the war. The many remembrance sites here include the Thiepval Memorial, the Somme 1916 museum and the Historial de la Grande Guerre.
